SAFe's main roles and responsibilities at the team level are as follows:

  • Agile Team – responsible for the delivery and quality of the work undertaken.
  • Scrum Master – responsible for ensuring that the team works well and follows the processes.
  • Product Owner – responsible for prioritizing stories and ensuring they are well described and understood.
  • Product Manager – responsible for prioritizing features and ensuring that they are well described and understood.
  • Release Train Engineer – responsible for ensuring that the agile publishing train (the team of agile teams) works well together and follows the processes.
  • Client – consumes the result of the agile publishing train. These can be external customers or people within the organization. Customers are the people who will have the final view of the value of production.
  • Business Owner – key stakeholders who are ultimately responsible for the company's bottom line.
  • Architect/Systems Engineer – responsible for designing and sharing the architectural vision through the agile publishing train, which means that the work delivered will be tailored to the goal.
